WP2: Analysis of causes (year 1), effects (year 3) and potential impacts (year 5) Output 1-4

Farmers’ experiences with organic resource production (agroforestry, alley-cropping, mulching, composting, intercropping) will be evaluated in-depth. Agronomic, socio-economic, institutional and communicative reasons for not adopting recommended organic resource production strategies and low organic fertilizer application rates will be investigated. Farmers’ ideas of how to improve techniques to intensify the production and application of organic resources on their fields will be collected and transformed into research questions. In years 3 and 5, experiences of farmers will be (re)-evaluated, in year 5 based on the measured effects of the outreach campaign (WP4) on adoption. Results will be used to further improve adaptation of soil fertility management (SFM).
