Output 1: Bio-physical understanding of Soil Fertility Management is increased

This output is mainly addressing the development of applicable technologies in SFM. The baseline analysis in agronomy is conducted by PhD students who develop their proposal based on those results. This includes a literature review on the past use of organic resources and results obtained from studies on e.g. green manures, alley cropping, agroforestry, composting and mulching in the context of crop production systems in SSA. This part also entails 2 farmer-to-farmer visits in each project area, that will be monitored by socio-economic and communication researchers. This output will also comprise the results from on-farm trials, field trials, field assessments, soil organic matter dynamics, decomposition studies, and soil analyses.
